When it Comes to Asbestos - Does Size Really Matter?
Summary of the Variety and Dimensions of Asbestos and Other Respirable Elongate Mineral Particles (REMPs) Compiled During Analysis of over 500 Human Lung Tissue Samples with Comments to Relevance on Current Talc Litigation
presented by Lee W. Poye, J3 Resources

Registration $59 for EIA Members
$69 for Non-Members
Want to sponsor? Just $250!

Relative health effects due to the variety, length, and aspect ratios of Asbestos and other Respirable Elongated Mineral Particles (REMPs) have been the source of volumes of research, regulations, and litigation over past decades. Abundant analytical methods have been developed attempting to identify, minimize, and even eliminate risk of exposure to everyone from laborers to school children. This study will present the varieties, average dimensions including aspect ratios, and distribution of REMPs identified in over 500 human lung tissue analyses conducted since 2010. A discussion of the inherent biases due to counting criteria employed, for example will also be addressed. The primary purpose of this data is to provide cumulative data on the type and size of REMPs most commonly encountered in human lung tissue effected by asbestos related disease to evaluate effectiveness of various analytical methods. The potential impacts of such data on talc litigation will also be discussed.

We will hold a brief business meeting for the future of the Texas Chapter of the EIA, starting at 5:30pm. If you are interested in being part of the leadership of the organization, please plan to attend!
